The Cancer Challenge is an organization that raises money in Northwest Arkansas to support other organizations that provide cancer support and education services in our area. Well, let's just let them tell you in their own words...
MISSION:
We are passionate, visionary and tenacious volunteers dedicated to the Cancer Challenge mission; to advocate and support world-class cancer care in Northwest Arkansas.  We are committed to cancer prevention & education; early detection & treatment, navigation and support; and survivorship initiatives.  We are a non-profit organization who has been caring for the community of Northwest Arkansas for over 18 years.

Our Vision:  A community that ... provides world-class cancer care for all people; believes in prevention and promotes healthy lifestyles; supports research in the hope for a cure; and offers cancer survivors encouragement and support.

The Cancer Challenge was founded in 1994 and in its first year raised $100,000. Since then the event has grown in size and impact on Northwest Arkansas and strives to raise $750,000 in 2011. To date, over $8.3 million dollars have been gifted back to our community to support much needed cancer services and programs.
Even if you can't make it to one of the sporting events (of if you're just not feeling terribly athletic this month) you can still join us for the gala and auction. The Cancer Challenge silent auction is unbelievable, and they're bringing the Evasons back this year to entertain. Hope to see you there!

Updates, Reminders and Just Good Stuff

Update...
It was a busy weekend with a good number of the Hope Cancer Resources staff working in different volunteer capacities at Cancer Challenge events. We are grateful for everyone who signed up to participate in the events. It was a hot, muggy weekend, but the money raised is so vital to the local cancer support programs that benefit from the events as grantees. Thank you!

Reminder...

We have a casual little event coming up in August that we want you to be sure to put on your calendar. Fish City Grill in Rogers generously hosts non-profit organizations on the first Tuesday of each month and passes along a portion of that day's sales to the group. August 3 will be our day. Please make a note on your calendar to visit them for lunch or dinner and support us. It will be a win-win since they have a fabulous menu! (p.s. there's a gluten-free version too!)

Good Stuff!
A number of our staff and board members have been working on a strategic planning project with the help of the Soderquist Center for Leadership & Ethics at John Brown University. Our entire staff recently gathered to hear an update from them. We are grateful to be working in such a wonderful part of our country, and to have staff and board members who are dedicated to our mission and vision. Thank you for helping us do what we are passionate about - as we've said before... we can't do it without you.

Mission:
We Provide compassionate, professional cancer support and education in the Northwest Arkansas region today and tomorrow.

Vision:
To be recognized as the premier source for comprehensive cancer support services while enhancing quality of life.

Do you like a CHALLENGE!???

In Northwest Arkansas we are fortunate to have an amazing number of non-profits doing great things for our communities. We also have a number of generous foundations and individuals who make it their goal to support these agencies in the work they do. One of our favorites is the Cancer Challenge.

The mission of the Cancer Challenge is to raise funds to support programs and services designed around the early detection, prevention, diagnosis, research and treatment of cancer. It is a non-profit organization that has been caring for the community of Northwest Arkansas for over sixteen years. Hope Cancer Resources receives grant funds from the Cancer Challenge to support our cancer patient assistance and education programs.

The Cancer Challenge is an annual event - actually a series of events - running from June 24 - 26, 2010. Just about any sporting or athletic activity you could be interested is included in this year's calendar of events, but if you'd prefer to help out without having to break a sweat, consider volunteering instead.

You'll see several of us from Hope Cancer Resources at the events this year, serving lunch and breakfast, and volunteering at the events... be sure to say hello!!
